Web 2.0: A reality check
David Friedman, President, Central Region, Avenue A | Razorfish

Much buzz floats around the Internet these days about Web 2.0. But like web developments of the past, hype is starting to encrust the notion, until today, there are as many definitions of Web 2.0 as there are marketers trying to sell something. Is Web 2.0 a technology? Or is it a set of practices? Or is it both—with one feeding the other? This session will lay out clearly and succinctly what Web 2.0 is and what it means to eretailers. Our speaker, an executive with a leading consulting company, will discuss the consumer aspects of Web 2.0—customer-generated product reviews, consumer-uploaded videos, social networking and so on—as well as the technologies that make such practices practical—Ajax, wireless, broadband, easy photo and video uploading and others. He will then discuss the implications for Web 2.0 among online retailers, what it will take for a retail organization to make best use of Web 2.0 technology and practices and lay out five things every retail executive should know about Web 2.0.
