Designing Sites for Global Sales
John Yunker, CEO, Byte Level Research
Joshua Lau, CEO, YesAsia.com

Generating a significant amount of retails sales overseas is not as easy as putting a currency converter on a site. In fact, the entire site must be geared toward creating the right kind of cultural environment and shopping experience for overseas customers. Our first speaker in this session has advised a number of e-retailers on international site design and cultural considerations. He will answer such questions as: Which languages should retailers use for maximum sales and effectiveness? What do various colors mean in different societies? Should a site use models to display products or simply show the products? What kinds of security measures do shoppers in different cultures respond to? How does a retailer create the overall impression that a site speaks to shoppers in a particular culture? Our second speaker is a retailer who has implemented web sites to appeal to shoppers in international markets. He will discuss how his company identified the elements that it needed to focus on the most and how it implemented then tested consumer reactions to web sites in different markets.
