Overstock.com Inc.’s founder and chairman Patrick M. Byrne has resumed his duties as CEO after taking leave in February to address medical issues. Byrne’s absence was attributed to cardiac problems thought to stem from cancer treatments he underwent years ago.

Overstock.com president Jonathan Johnson stood in as CEO during Byrne’s leave. "Everyone at the company is pleased Patrick is back, in good shape, and able to continue to direct the business of the company," Johnson says.

During Byrne’s leave, his father died. John J. Byrne was a former Overstock chairman.

Overstock reports its first quarter earnings later this week and is No. 27 in the 2012 Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
