Ace Hardware Corp. has a new president and CEO.

John Venhuizen takes over those jobs, winning promotion from his previous position of president and chief operating officer. He takes over for retiring CEO Ray Griffith as part of a transition plan announced in September, the retail chain says.

Ace Hardware is No. 563 in the Internet Retailer Second 500 Guide. It says Venhuizen has worked at Ace since 1992, including in such jobs as vice president of business development. Ace credits him with coming up with the retailer’s new long-term strategy, dubbed “2020 Vision.”

“John has already made an indelible imprint on Ace Hardware and he will continue to do so at the helm of this great organization,” says David Ziegler, chairman of Ace’s board. “We are pleased with the momentum of the business, particularly with the launch of 2020 Vision. Ace’s board of directors is confident that Ace will grow and prosper under John’s passionate leadership.”
