Overstock.com hires a technology executive

Bhargav Shah worked on I.T. for consulting firm KPMG.

Overstock.com has hired Bhargav Shah as the e-retailer’s senior vice president of technology. He replaces Sam Peterson, who is leaving to join online language school Open English. Peterson will remain with Overstock for what it calls a “transition period.”

Overstock is No. 27 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.

Shah comes from accounting and consulting firm KPMG LLP, where since 2009 he had worked as director of its information technology advisory group. Between 1999 and 2009, he worked at consulting firm BearingPoint. His job there included managing relationships with IBM Corp. and other technology firms, according to his LinkedIn profile.

At Overstock, Shah will lead technology development and implementation, says chairman and CEO Patrick Byrne. "Given Bhargav's background and experience, which includes providing consulting services to Overstock.com, I expect he will make an enormous contribution to our company,” Byrne says.
