Brazilian sporting goods e-retailer Netshoes launched online in 2000 with a simple goal—to become a leading Latin American retailer of sporting goods through e-commerce. After learning the ins and outs of online retailing in Brazil, it began expanding into new markets last year when it debuted dedicated Netshoes’ sites in Argentina and Mexico. Each site is managed locally and takes a design and merchandising approach that suits each nation’s unique culture. Products and promotions vary by country, for example. All sites feature faceted site search and rich media, personalized product recommendations and customer ratings and reviews. Netshoes is on track to generate about $490 million in sales this year, making it one of the largest e-retailers in Latin America.
