Mass merchant e-retailer Hayneedle Inc. has leased a 300,000-square-foot warehouse in Riverside, CA, about 60 miles east of Los Angeles. The new facility gives the web merchant, No. 85 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, approximately 900,000 square feet of fulfillment and distribution space.

The Riverside warehouse will open in the spring and employ approximately 20 workers—a staff that could double over the next few years, Hayneedle says. The retailer operates a 600,000-square-foot warehouse in Monroe, OH, a facility that opened in 2010. The California warehouse, which will focus on West Coast deliveries, will enable Hayneedle to offer two-day ground shipping to 90% of its customers, the retailer says, compared with 70% today.

“The West Coast facility is yet another milestone in our growth, and the location aligns with our commitment to provide unparalleled selection and unmatched customer service,” says Tom Clement, Hayneedle’s vice president of supply chain and logistics.

Sycamore Business Park LLC, a joint venture of Trammell Crow Co. and Clarion Partners, owns the Riverside warehouse.

Hayneedle is hardly the only major e-retailer expanding its warehouse network. Amazon.com Inc., for instance, said earlier this year it would open 18 fulfillment centers globally during 2012. And this fall, online apparel retailer Urban Outfitters Inc. said it would boost its e-commerce business in part by building a West Coast fulfillment center.
