A deal that would turn online jeweler and auction site Bidz.com Inc. into a privately held company led investors to bid up the e-retailer’s stock price last week. It led all winners in the Internet Retailer Online Retail Index with a 26.7% gain over the previous week.

The buyer, Glendon Group Inc., would pay 78 cents per share for Bidz.com, No. 205 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, a 59.2% premium over the Bidz.com May 16 closing price of 49 cents. The deal was announced May 17. Bidz.com expects the acquisition to close in the fourth quarter.

A Securities and Exchange Commission filing about the deal says Kia Jam is CEO of the Glendon Group. Jam is listed on IMDB.com as president of K. Jam Media, a film production company. In addition to operating its namesake e-commerce site, Bidz.com also owns Modnique.com, which offers designer apparel, accessories, shoes and housewares to registered members on the site during scheduled sales events.

According to the Top 500 Guide, Bidz.com had $79.0 million in 2011 e-commerce sales, down 19.4% from $98.0 million in 2010.
