Few of the 25 e-commerce stocks in the Internet Retailer Online Retail Index posted gains last week. The stock prices of only four companies, U.S. Auto Parts Network Inc., Overstock.com Inc., 1-800-Flowers.com Inc. and PetMed Express Inc., increased last week.
Among the largest losers was Keynote Systems Inc., with a 17.9% decrease. Last week Keynote, which measures e-commerce and mobile commerce site performance, posted a second quarter net income of $334,000, down 89.9% from $3.3 million a year ago.
Keynote’s costs were up in the quarter, totaling $29.8 million up 44.0% from $20.7 million a year. Keynote says $6.2 million of that increase is because of expenses associated with the introduction of Keynote DeviceAnywhere, a mobile testing service to measure and monitor a client’s sites and apps.
Online marketing firm ValueClick Inc.’s stock value decreased 22.3% last week after reporting first quarter results. That’s despite the company e posting $152.9 million in revenue for the first quarter ending March 31, a 31.2% increase from $116.5 million a year, and a 27.8% increase in net income, going from $16.9 million last year to $21.6 million.
In a research note last week, Colin Sebastian, an investment analyst for Baird Equity Research, noted that ValueClick's results were a “mixed” because the first quarter revenue fell below earlier guidance and analyst consensus.
Overall, the Online Retail Index decreased 6.26% last week, a steeper decline than the broader market. The Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 1.44% and the Standard & Poor’s 500 decreased 2.44% last week.
