Acxiom turns to a former Google executive for a data boost
New hires could help the analytics company capture more consumer data.
Acxiom, which collects and analyzes consumer data, has hired Phil Mui as its first chief product and engineering officer. Mui comes from Google Inc., where since 2005 he was the group projects manager for Google Analytics, the search engine’s stats toolset that helps businesses measure such online metrics as page visits, traffic sources and conversion rates.
He is the last of three key hires in a strategic move to bring in experts to drive innovation in products and analytics at Acxiom, says CEO Scott Howe. The company, which says it collects roughly 18 trillion pieces of consumer data each day, aims to improve its ability to analyze both online and office consumer data on behalf of its clients, which include about half of the Fortune 500 companies, says chief marketing officer Tim Suther.
Mui’s expertise and lengthy background in data analysis—including work at the Stanford Functional Genomics Facility, Oracle Corp. and Microsoft Corp.—will help to accelerate innovations in Acxiom’s analysis of large quantities of consumer data, Suther says.
Mui’s hire follows that of two others this year. Warren Jenson, former chief financial officer for Electronica Arts, Amazon.com Inc. (from 1999 to 2002), Delta Airlines and NBC, is Acxiom’s new chief financial officer. Nada Stirratt, former chief revenue officer for social network MySpace and former executive vice president of digital advertising at MTV Networks, is the company’s first chief revenue officer.

"His vision, brilliance and extensive career accomplishments are exactly what Acxiom needs to accelerate our ability to deliver game-changing, client-centric solutions that will help our clients achieve greater success."
