Staples Inc. has hired Willem Vos as director of e-commerce for Staples Europe. Vos is charged with leading the implementation of Staples’ long-term European e-commerce growth strategy, Staples says.

Staples is the No. 4 e-retailer in Europe in total online sales, according to Internet Retailer’s Top 400 Europe. Staples is the No. 2 e-retailer in North America, according to the Top 500 Guide. Company-wide, e-commerce accounts for more than 40% of sales.

“Willem brings strong e-commerce skills and a broad experience to Staples,” says Peter Howard, senior vice president and head of Staples online and marketing for Staples Europe. “Willem is a great addition to our team as we become a trusted source for office solutions to our customers.”

Vos will report to Howard.

Vos comes to Staples from interactive marketing agency Sapient Corp., where he was managing director. At Sapient, Vos worked on multichannel marketing programs and helped develop the agency’s e-commerce business in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, Staples says. Earlier in his career, Voss worked in a marketing and sales role at online marketing agency Digitas. He also worked as a business consultant at Ernst & Young and Accenture.

Brian Tilzer, Staples’ vice president of e-commerce and business development, will share his experiences working on an m-commerce site and smartphone apps in a keynote address at the Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition 2012 in Chicago in June. His keynote address is entitled “Why Staples is investing big in mobile commerce.” The IRCE $200 early-bird discount expires March31.
