Brown Shoe Co., parent company of e-retailer Shoes.com, today said it has hired Mark Schmitt as chief information officer. Shoe.com is No. 137 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.

Schmitt will oversee Brown Shoe’s strategic technology efforts. He was senior director of management information systems for pharmacy benefit management company Express Scripts Inc. He also worked, between 1996 and 2006, at Anheuser-Busch InBev, where he held a variety of information technology jobs.

“We’re looking forward to Mark’s contribution to our I.T. initiatives and to leveraging his extensive experience with multi-billion dollar corporations,” says Mark Hood, chief financial officer for Brown. “His work in management information systems will be of benefit. In addition, his background in supply chain and logistics, as well as his strategic planning experience, will also be of great value to the company.”

Last month, Brown reported that e-commerce sales for Shoes.com declined 2% in the third quarter.
