After annual web sales in 2010 declined about 1%, American Eagle Outfitters embarked on an e-commerce site redesign to win back younger apparel shoppers. So far the effort is paying off with year-to-date e-commerce sales up by around 9%, the company says. The retooled AE.com features product pages with bigger images, more ways to see related products side by side and faster search, says Roberto Croce, American Eagle senior vice president. The updated site also showcases such new features as color swatches and customer reviews on category pages, video product reviews and Facebook Connect, which enables a consumer to log in to AE.com with a Facebook user name and password. “We’ve made the web site even better for customers,” Croce says.
