LivingSocial’s January offer of a $20 Amazon.com gift card for $10 didn’t just beat the previous daily deal record of 441,000 vouchers sold, it nearly tripled it. That enticing nationwide offer from the world’s largest online retailer exemplifies the daily deal operator’s growth strategy. In the past year LivingSocial rolled out Instant Deals, offering consumers limited-time vouchers based on their location, expanded its LivingSocial Escapes travel site that sells vacation packages, and launched LivingSocial Gourmet, an invitation-only service featuring offers for high-end food and restaurant deals. It also expanded internationally and now serves 34 million subscribers in 25 countries. LivingSocial.com, which offers deals based on the visitor’s location, features easy navigation and alluring imagery.
