Shoebuy.com acquires an online retailer devoted to Ugg boots

CozyBoots.com, founded in 1994, was the original e-retailer for the footwear.

Shoebuy.com Inc. said this week it has bought CozyBoots.com, an e-commerce site operator that sells only Ugg boots, the sheepskin-and-fleece footwear as equally famous for its supposed comfort as its often derided appearance.

Founded in 1999, Shoebuy is No. 87 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide and a unit of IAC/InterActive Corp. Shoebuy did not say how much it will pay for CozyBoots.com, which was founded in 1994. Shoebuy says CozyBoots.com was the original online retailer of Ugg boots.

Shoebuy says its carries more than 1,200 brands across 15 web sites and attracts 8 million unique visitors per month.

“We're very excited about adding CozyBoots to the Shoebuy family of web sites," says Mike Sorabella, CEO of Shoebuy.com. "The addition of CozyBoots, coupled with our award-winning customer service and fulfillment capabilities, makes for a powerful combination."  

As of today, visitors to the Shoebuy.com site could see a link to CozyBoots.com along the lower half of the left rail.  Shoebuy also operates Bagsbuy.com and Events. Shoebuy.com, a private sale site.
