Ai Launches Mobile InternetRetailer.com to Reach Expanding Mobile Audience

Ai developed all mobile initiatives and provided both visual and functional parity to InternetRetailer.com, allowing for a consistent and smooth transition from desktop to mobile.

October 7, 2011, New York, N.Y.—Alexander Interactive (Ai), an award-winning e-commerce and web design agency, launched a mobile version of InternetRetailer.com (IR) today. The mobile site caters to the company’s growing mobile audience and provides users full access to IR’s content inventory, including its high value packages and its 24/7 newsfeed. The new site is e-commerce enabled, allowing Internet Retailer to sell its conference materials, CDs and popular guides, like the IR Top500 Guide, the most comprehensive and authoritative analysis of North America's 500 largest e-retailers.

InternetRetailer.com is a company owned by Vertical Web Media (VWM), and has established a reputation for being the most visited informational website in the e-commerce industry, generating more than 200,000 unique monthly visitors. Alexander Interactive redesigned InternetRetailer.com in 2010, and applied its expertise in transactional intelligence in the design of the mobile site.   The new site optimizes the user-experience (UX) for the mobile platform by reformatting it to a clean, easy-to-scan format.  It also incorporates a Magento platform to monetize Internet Retailer’s (IR) premium content.

VWM President and CEO Jack Love said, “We chose Alexander Interactive to design our new mobile web site because of the amazing job they did in redesigning our main web site last year. In the first year after that redesign, unique visits to the site grew 28% and sales at our online book store grew nearly 50%. After that kind of experience, how could we choose anyone but Ai to design our new mobile site?  And after just one day of using it, I can say that Ai once again worked its magic.”

“This new site is going to be a great platform to leverage our business goals for 2012 and beyond. In just one year’s time, mobile visits to the IR website increased by 310%, and we decided it was time to invest in a version of the site geared toward the mobile user.”

For the last few years, IR has focused on understanding and staying abreast with the trend towards mobile.  In 2010, IR devoted a section of their site to reporting on only mobile commerce news.  In addition, the company devoted a conference to the topic (MCF: Mobile Commerce Forum.  With Forrester projection of mobile commerce doubling in 2012, IR wanted to be ready with an e-commerce mobile site that meets user needs and expectations.

Ai President Alex Schmelkin added, “We were excited to work on this project and came up with some innovative solutions to enhance IR’s mobile presence. Users can now search the guides from their mobile devices, access free previews of specific company profiles and purchase PDFs of full profiles for research on-the-go. We are happy to work with IR to stay competitive in an ever-changing market.”

Ai developed all mobile initiatives and provided both visual and functional parity to InternetRetailer.com, allowing for a consistent and smooth transition from desktop to mobile. The mobile homepage Ai created features an intuitive lay-out that displays the latest headlines - sorted by section, topic and popularity or searchable via the main site’s dynamic search feature. Articles are featured in a single page layout, allowing the user to click to the next/previous article without having to navigate back through the newsfeed.  The site also provides sharing tools, making content easy to email, tweet, and post to Facebook. The mobile site also gives a quick overview of upcoming IR events.
