In its second-largest acquisition, Amazon buys the company for $970 million.
Zobha is the apparel company’s first activewear business.
Kellwood Co., an apparel manufacturer and retailer, has acquired Zobha, a yoga and fitness apparel and accessories merchant. Zobha is the first activewear brand to join the Kellwood portfolio, the company says. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
Zobha marks Kellwood’s third purchase since the beginning of the year and its fifth since January 2010. The other 2011 acquisitions are Amsterdam-based fashion brand Scotch & Soda, acquired earlier this month, and sportswear brand Rebecca Taylor, acquired in January.
Mill Valley, CA-based Zobha makes and sells performance yoga wear and loungewear, including t-shirts, tunics, pullovers and hoodies for men and women. It also sells accessories such as yoga mats, headbands and mat carriers. The company also offers a line of maternity yoga wear.
“Zobha is an incredible brand that serves a category of the marketplace with tremendous growth potential,” says Kellwood CEO Michael Kramer.
Zobha is sold in 350 retail stores in 27 countries, online at Zobha.com and at yoga studios and fitness clubs.
Kellwood owns and operates fashion brands such as Phat Fashions LLC, No. 334 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide. Kellwood is part of Sun Capital Partners Inc.
