Global Industrial Canada’s new business-to-business e-commerce site has added 70,000 SKUs since January and now carries more than 325,000 industrial products, including industrial fasteners, material handling equipment and plumbing supplies.

The GlobalIndustrial.ca web site is modeled on the U.S. version, GlobalIndustrial.com, operated by Global Industrial, a subsidiary of Systemax Inc.

Recently added product categories include office furniture and supplies, maintenance and packing supplies, electrical and janitorial products, and storage and shelving. As new product categories and SKUs are added, they will be available on both the U.S. and Canadian sites.

The new site offers all products in Canadian currency, quoting freight charges to Canada and providing liaison services between customers and customs.

“The launch of the Global Industrial B2B Canadian e-commerce site enables us to improve the service to and overall experience of our Canadian customers through a more tailored and streamlined site, mirroring the successful functionality of our U.S. site,” says Richard Leeds, chairman and CEO of Systemax, No. 23 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide. “With the new site, Canadian customers can now purchase products and manage accounts online through an interface that is designed to meet their specific needs and offers increased customer support and services.”

Global Industrial also upgraded and added mobile commerce services, including an improved mobile site, an iPhone application and the use of Quick Response codes that can be scanned with the camera in a mobile phone. The mobile site offers enhanced navigation and functionality designed to streamline ordering and account information access. A new iPhone application enables customers to photograph a product or ask a question and send it to the Global Industrial research team. In response, the customer will receive pricing and a selection of similar products offered by the company.

Global Industrial also is now using Quick Response codes in their catalogs to aid shoppers searching for specific products. Using a Quick Response application, shoppers can send a photograph via smartphone of the code for a specific product featured in a Global Industrial catalog. The Quick Response application links the customer to more information about that product, including pricing and specials, detailed specifications, and information about similar or complementary products.

Systemax’s consumer-direct e-commerce sites include TigerDirect.com, CompUSA.com and CircuitCity.com.
