Groupon today announced a hire designed to drive international growth. Robert Bosch becomes the e-commerce operator’s senior vice president of business development for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, a new position.
Bosch’s job is to develop partnerships with brands, manufacturers and retailers in those regions. Groupon offers limited-time online discount coupons in 44 countries.
Bosch spent nearly 10 years at Germany-based publisher Axel Springer AG, where he held various online, sales and marketing jobs, including as managing director of sales for the company’s central marketing group, Axel Springer Media Impact. He also oversaw digital strategy for the Welt newspaper group, also based in Germany. Groupon says Bosch has experience overseeing more than 50 print, online and mobile publications that serve Germany.
“With Robert Bosch we get an experienced media and online manager for the expansion of Groupon in Europe,” says Groupon CEO Andrew Mason. “He has outstanding expertise in the development of online marketing and business models."
Groupon announced Bosch’s hire after the daily-deal site disclosed that president and chief operating officer Rob Solomon would leave the company in the coming months.
