House of Fraser, a department store chain with 61 locations throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland, has named Andy Harding director of e-commerce.

Harding was most recently director of multichannel and account sales at stationery retailer Ryman. Before Ryman, Harding worked at Carphone Warehouse for eight years as head of e-commerce before becoming director of strategic web services.

Harding replaces Peter Callaway, who has retired. He reports to Robin Terrell, executive director of multichannel and international.

“We’re extremely excited to welcome Andy to the House of Fraser multichannel team at such a pivotal time in our development,” Terrell says.  “Andy brings a wealth of experience and knowledge that will be invaluable in delivering the next stage of our e-commerce strategy.”

House of Fraser, which sells online at HouseOfFraser.co.uk, says web sales increased 130% in 2010 from 2009. The retailer says a larger assortment of products as well as multichannel offerings such as the ability to buy online and pick up in store has helped drive web sales.
