Online daily-deal company Groupon Inc. hired its first chief financial officer. Jason Child comes from Amazon.com, No. 1 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, where he worked as vice president of finance for the retailer's international business.

Groupon is one of the most amazing businesses I have ever seen,” says Child. “I am thrilled to join a great team that is attacking one of the biggest opportunities in e-commerce today.”

Child worked for 12 years at Amazon. During that time, he oversaw finances for the world’s largest online retailer in Germany and Japan, and served as Amazon’s worldwide corporate controller. He previously worked for seven years at accounting firm Arthur Andersen as a certified public accountant and consulting manager. He will move from Seattle to Chicago for the Groupon job.

His hiring comes shortly after Groupon reportedly rejected an acquisition offer from Google Inc. that observers had put as high as $6 billion.
