Multichannel discount retailer Target Corp. this year got a jump on Black Friday, the traditional start to holiday shopping on the day after Thanksgiving. The company launched earlier this month a series of holiday online promotions that range from special everyday deals with savings of up to 50% off regular prices to free shipment of Christmas trees to shoppers’ homes.
Building on previous years’ holiday specials, Target quadrupled the number of items eligible for free shipping and offered an additional 5% off on all online purchases when customers used their Target credit card, or REDcard, at checkout, says Steve Eastman, president. The holiday promotion launched Nov. 10.
Among holiday deals offered by Target, No. 21 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, are daily deals in which the retailer offers exclusive one-day savings of up to 50%, including “Mega Merry Mondays” in which deals are offered on 17 “hot” items and “Total Toy Tuesdays” in which deep discounts are offered on five favorite toys. Shoppers can register for alerts on daily deals by signing up for e-mail, text message or Twitter alerts at Target.com/dailydeals.
In the countdown to Black Friday, Target also is operating a “2-Day Sale Command Center” at Target.com/BlackFriday, offering an exclusive item on sale or free shipping each day. The countdown ends at 4 a.m. Friday, when doors open at Target stores nationwide.
Target for the first time also is selling online fresh Christmas trees, wreaths and garlands. Trees began shipping for free beginning Nov. 15. Prices range from $79.99 to $159.99, depending on height.
Target.com also is offering its biggest free-shipping event ever during the holiday season. When guests spend $50 or more on Target.com from Nov. 21 to Dec. 11, they will receive free shipping directly on more than 800,000 items, including toys, appliances, bedding, furniture and home décor.
Estimated delivery dates are provided for all items. To ensure a Dec. 24 delivery, guests can order in-stock items via standard shipping until Dec. 21 or one-day shipping until Dec. 22.
Target.com also will host a sale on Thanksgiving Day from midnight PST to 11:59 p.m. PST. The sale will feature up to 50% off electronics items including cameras, televisions, a Blu-ray player and video game console. In addition, any Barbie item purchased will ship for free.
Shoppers can find information on special deals at Target.com/Christmas. Target also launched mobile access to Christmas promotions, seasonal alerts and a GiftFinder feature. Shoppers can purchase gifts directly from their mobile devices, download the Target iPhone or Android app, and sign up for scannable mobile coupons at Target.com/mobile.
