Members-only e-retailer Gilt Groupe Inc. has opened a 303,000-square-foot distribution center in Shepherdsville, KY.  The facility, Gilt Groupe’s largest, will create over 100 new jobs in the Louisville, KY, area over the next nine months, the retailer says.

Gilt plans to use robotics, conveyor systems and mechanical sortation equipment in the new facility, which will house men's and home merchandise for the retailer, says Christopher Halkyard, vice president of operations, Gilt Groupe. "This move to Louisville gives us an opportunity to introduce new technology and material handling infrastructure to improve our customer service," he says.

Gilt Groupe, No.140 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, has hired fulfillment company Quiet Logistics to staff and manage the new center.

"These new jobs, many working with cutting-edge robotic equipment, will benefit the entire community and further strengthen Louisville's position as a leader in the distribution and logistics industry." says Joe Reagan, president and CEO of Greater Louisville Inc. – The Metro Chamber of Commerce.
