ABC Entertainment has launched a web store where shoppers can buy items such as T-shirts, bobbleheads, DVDs and books tied to the TV network’s most popular shows. Customers to ABCTVStore.com also can customize products using technology from e-retailer CafePress.com. For instance, a fan could add her own design to a Desperate Housewives T-shirt and offer it for sale to other online shoppers.
"Our print-on-demand service means that ABC can have literally thousands of goods available at any given time, because the goods are only printed when an order is placed," says Amy Maniatis, vice president of marketing, CafePress.
CafePress, No. 120 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, also provides order management in addition to printing, packaging and shipping the site’s printable merchandise such as clothing, tote bags and water bottles. ABC will fulfill other merchandise.
"Embracing the voices and enthusiasm of our fans is very important to us. Of equal importance to us was the ability to incorporate the latest in supply chain optimization technologies to enable us to more nimbly execute our retail strategy," says Mia Rondinella, vice president, planning and development, at ABC Entertainment Group.
Earlier this year, CafePress and ABC signed a licensing agreement allowing customers to design and sell authorized merchandise on CafePress.com, an online marketplace selling customized merchandise from more than 6 million members.
