In its second-largest acquisition, Amazon buys the company for $970 million.
The Anaconda Sports acquisition is Hat World’s third recent purchase.
Hat World Inc. has bought Anaconda Sports Inc., a sporting goods dealer that operates a direct mail catalog business and an e-commerce site. Hat World, a unit of Genesco Inc., is No. 381 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Anaconda Sports, which sells to wholesalers, mass merchandisers and distributors, becomes part of Hat World’s Lids Teams Sports wholesale business. That unit sells sporting goods and apparel to schools, bookstores, corporations and youth groups.
“The addition of Anaconda is the latest example of Lids’ intent to grow its brand through the team dealer channel,” says Kenneth Kocher, president of Hat World. “The diversity within the Anaconda Sports business, its excellent reputation for quality and on-time delivery match up with Lids’ Team Sports’ existing initiatives.”
In May, Hat World continued to diversify its multichannel base by announcing it would buy the assets of Sports Avenue, which operates 46 stores and 13 e-commerce sites. A few weeks earlier, Hat World bought Brand Athletics Inc., a team apparel and equipment dealer, custom screen printer and embroidery operator.
