Last week’s fireworks on Wall Street were all of the ash can variety, as share prices tumbled, taking e-commerce stocks with them.
The Internet Retailer Online Retail Index of 25 e-commerce stocks lost 6.87% last week. That was even worse than the broader market, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 4.59% and the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index fell 5.04%.
Only one of the stocks tracked by the Online Retail Index managed a gain—e-retailer PetMed Express Inc.
As of the start of the third quarter, online retailer Vitacost.com Inc. joins the Online Retail index, replacing CyberSource, which is being acquired by payment card company Visa Inc.
