Web business is brisk for Abercrombie

E-commerce sales were brisk in May, but store sales sagged.

E-commerce sales were brisk, but store sales sagged for Abercrombie & Fitch Co. in May.

 For the five weeks ended May 29, Abercrombie No. 65 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, posted:

  •  An increase in e-commerce sales of 34% to $19.2 million from $14.3 million. Year-to-date web sales are up 40% to $88 million from $57.1 million in January through May in 2009.
  • Total sales grew 10% to $197.6 million from $179 million. Year-to-date total sales are up 13% to $885.4 million from $780.7 million in January through May in 2009.
  • Comparable-store sales declined 3%.
  • International sales grew year over year 84.5% to $36.9 million from $20 million. Year-to-date international sales are up 97.6% to $155.9 million from $78.9 million in January through May in 2009.

 In May Internet Retailer calculates the web accounted for 9.7% of all sales compared with 10.7% in the prior year.
