The Sports Authority promotes David Campisi to CEO and president

The Sports Authority Inc. has promoted president David Campisi to CEO. He replaces Doug Morton, who is retiring.

The Sports Authority Inc. has promoted David Campisi to CEO. He replaces Doug Morton who is retiring.

Campisi had worked as president of The Sports Authority, No. 184 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, since 2005. He oversaw merchandising and marketing.

He joined the retailer in 2004 as president of merchandising. Before that, he was executive vice president of merchandising for The Sports Authority, No. 50 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.

“David has proven to an instrumental leader by delivering strong fourth quarter results,” says Doug Morton, board chairmen for The Sports Authority who last year announced his retirement as CEO. “He has been successful in building a world-class executive team that has developed an inspiring plan to deliver growth in 2010 and beyond.”

The privately-held company operates 462 stores in 45 states and employs 15,000 workers.
