Social retail e-commerce site Wishpot.com has launched a plug-in for the Google Chrome web browser that alerts shoppers who add an item to their wish list or registry that coupons are available for the site they are on. It plans to add a similar Firefox plug-in later this month.

Wishpot pulls the information about whether a retailer offers a coupon from its internally developed set of 12,000 to 15,000 coupons.

Before the system presents an offer, the offer is verified as valid, says Max Ciccotosto, Wishpot CEO. When a shopper visits a site where coupons are available, the plug-in’s flower icon turns from green to red. When the shopper mouses over the icon, she can see what coupons are available.

“We wanted to provide a visual clue, but not make the icon too invasive,” says Ciccotosto.

Wishpot earns a commission when the shopper completes a purchase using a coupon, he says.
