Shoe manufacturer and online retailer Crocs Inc. has its third chief executive in a year with its promotion of chief operating officer and executive vice president John McCarvel to president and CEO. The move is effective today.

“We’ve spent the last 18 months stabilizing the company while reinvigorating our product line and brand, and realigning our cost structure,” says McCarvel. “I look forward to guiding the company back to profitable growth, with the help of our talented management team and employees around the world and the support of our board.”

He takes over for John Duerden who is retiring from the company. Duerden joined the company last March after the retirement of Ron Snyder, who took over the company in 2005.

During McCarvel’s tenure at Crocs, he has held a number of executive titles, including senior vice president for global operations and vice president for Asia. In those roles he has helped the company expand its direct channel business both online and in retail stores.

In 2009, Crocs’ online sales were $89 million, up 104% from $43.7 million in 2008.
