HSN and Samsung team up for TV shopping
TV and web retailer HSN is working with Samsung Electronics America to introduce interactive shopping through high-definition televisions, Blu-ray disc players and home theater systems.
TV and web retailer HSN Inc. is working with Samsung Electronics America Inc. to offer interactive shopping via high-definition TVs, Blu-ray disc players and home theater systems. The HSN Shop By Remote application will be included in select 2010 Samsung devices through Samsung`s Internet@TV-Content Service. The HSN Shop By Remote app will enable viewers to access live streaming HSN video and make purchases using their remote controls.
Samsung`s Internet@TV feature includes Samsung Apps, which provide consumers with content and applications from services including video, information, lifestyle, games and sports. The HSN app will be included in the first group of TV apps to be made available on Samsung Apps in spring 2010 free of charge to consumers who buy new Samsung web-enabled home entertainment electronics. Premium apps will be available for purchase via SamsungApps.com in summer 2010. Prices have not yet been released.
Samsung viewers will need a broadband connection to access Internet@TV. The HSN app will include the Current On-air Item, Today`s Special, Deal of the Day and Last 15 Items Aired.
"This latest partnership with Samsung will continue our tradition of developing new ways to engage consumers by allowing us to reach an audience that does not otherwise have access to our Shop By Remote service," says John McDevitt, vice president of advanced services, HSN.
HSN introduced Shop By Remote in 2005, enabling shoppers with existing accounts to purchase products using their television remote controls if they subscribed to participating cable or satellite television services. A second version enabled existing customers to shop from specially recorded HSN programs with more products. A third version rolled out in 2008 enables consumers to buy products offered on the air or to choose other category options.
