Blockbuster debuts a video store that can fit in a pocket

Blockbuster has released an iPhone app that enables customers to browse the video rental chain’s complete catalog of movies and TV shows, check store inventory, create and manage an online queue of movies, and locate a store.

In response to customer feedback, Blockbuster Inc. has created a mobile app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The app is available for free at Apple Inc.’s App Store.

“Downloading this app is like putting Blockbuster in your pocket,” says Kevin Lewis, senior vice president of digital entertainment. “It’s just one more way we’re working to expand our connection with our customers and their access to the entertainment they want most. We spent a lot of time listening to the kind of features our customers wanted in an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch, and we’re excited by the functionality in this first release.”

The Blockbuster app enables customers to:

  • Browse Blockbuster’s complete catalog of movies and television shows.
  • Check store inventory to see if a movie is currently in stock.
  • Create and manage an online queue of movies, adding, deleting or reordering titles in an online account.
  • Locate the nearest Blockbuster store.
