Drugstore.com and Luxottica strike a deal

Eyewear manufacturer and retailer Luxottica and Drugstore.com are partnering to develop and offer contact lenses in North America through e-commerce sites.

Drugstore.com Inc. and eyewear manufacturer and retailer Luxottica Group S.p.A. have announced a partnership to develop and offer contact lenses in North America.

“We are very pleased to be able to utilize Drugstore.com`s e-commerce platform and our strengths in online technology, marketing, customer care, and fulfillment on Luxottica`s behalf. This alliance represents an unparalleled opportunity to extend our partnership strategy, a key growth driver for the future, to our vision business,” says Dawn Lepore, CEO and chairman, Drugstore.com. Drugstore is No. 48 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide (a PDF version of the company’s financial and operating profile can be ordered by clicking on its name).

Under a multi-year agreement, Vision Direct Inc., an online contact lens retailer and a subsidiary of Drugstore.com, will collaborate with Luxottica Group to develop contact lens e-commerce sites for Luxottica brands in North America and provide customer care and fulfillment services. Luxottica’s brands include Ray-Ban and Drugstore, No. 241 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide (a PDF version of the company’s financial and operating profile can be ordered by clicking on its name).

“Together we will develop a great customer experience that we believe will grow the overall market for vision products,” says Lepore.
