Glyde.com a new online marketplace that enables consumers to sell books, CDs, DVDs and video games, promises to make buying and selling goods easier for consumers.

Glyde, created by Simon Rothman, founder of eBay Motors, the automotive unit of eBay Inc., says it caters to consumers who don’t sell online because it is too difficult. The Glyde marketplace doesn’t require sellers to post pictures and provides sellers with packaging and postage to make it easier to ship items sold.

“After the success of eBay, I thought the whole world was buying and selling online,” Rothman says. “When I went back to my hometown in Ohio, my friends and family admitted they don’t sell anything online because it is too hard. I created Glyde to be simple enough for my mom.”

Sellers enter the title of their product, such as the name of the CD or DVD, select the appropriate image from Glyde’s library and choose a condition, such as excellent or new. Then Glyde recommends a fair market price for the item. Users can choose to list the item for more or less and also choose to donate a portion of the sale to a charity. Once the item sells, Glyde sends the seller a pre-addressed, stamped envelope to ship the goods.

Glyde charges a fee of 10% of the sale price of the item plus the cost of the mailer. Funds are deposited into a seller’s user account and can be withdrawn via bank transfer or check. Glyde accepts Visa and MasterCardcards.
