ValueClick’s revenue falls in Q3

Third quarter revenue for web marketing company ValueClick Inc. fell 12% to $130.2 million from $148.1 million a year earlier. Despite the decline, the company still turned a profit, ValueClick says.

Third quarter revenue for web marketing company ValueClick Inc. fell 12% to $130.2 million from $148.1 million a year earlier. Nonetheless, net earnings increased to $25 million compared to $2 million a year earlier as the company significantly lowered their sales and marketing, administrative and technology expenses.

 

 

     

  • Third quarter revenue fell 12% from the same quarter a year ago to $130.16 million from $148.07 million for Q3 of 2008.
  • Net earnings increased to $25.03 million compared to $2 million a year earlier.

 

In the first nine months, ValueClick reports:

     

  • Revenue fell roughly 16% to $395.57 million from $475.72 million
  • Net earnings rose 41% to $53.12 million from $37.66 million.

     

ValueClick provides online marketing services in affiliate and search marketing, display advertising, lead generation, ad serving and related technologies, and comparison shopping. ValueClick’s brands include Commission Junction, ValueClick Media, Mediaplex, Smarter.com, CouponMountain.com, and PriceRunner.

 

By segment for the third quarter, ValueClick reports:

     

  • Media: revenue of $55.94 million, down 27% from $76.20 million a year earlier; operating income of $11.41 million, down about 40% from $19.27 million a year earlier.
  • Comparison shopping and search: revenue of $41.54 million, up 13% from $36.60 million a year earlier; operating income of $11.20 million, up 52% from a year earlier.
  • Affiliate marketing: revenue of $26.34 million, down 10% from $29.32 million; operating income of $13.15 million, compared to $13.20 million.
  • Technology: revenue of $6.64 million compared to $6.69 million; operating income of $2.82 million compared to $2.81 million.

 

By segment for the first nine months, ValueClick reports:

     

  • Media: revenue of $178.17 million down 22% from $227.31 million; operating income of $39.63 million down 27% compared to $54.44 million
  • Comparison shopping and search: revenue of $117.83 million, down 15% from $139.09 million; operating income of $27.90 million, down 16% from $33.03 million
  • Affiliate marketing: revenue of $80.36 million, down 11% from $90.34 million; operating income of $39.83 million, down 8% from $43.38 million
  • Technology: revenue of $20.18 million, down 5% from $21.33 million; operating income of $9.09 million, down 10% from $10.09 million.

     

For the fourth quarter, ValueClick estimates revenue of between $128 and $138 million.
