Online holiday shopping takes to the air, compliments of Google and Virgin

Google and Virgin America have teamed up to offer free Internet access aboard every Virgin America flight between Nov. 10 and Jan. 15.

Google Inc. and Virgin Group airline Virgin America have teamed up to offer free Internet access aboard every Virgin America flight between Nov. 10 and Jan. 15.

The two companies announced this week that they would offer free wireless Internet access aboard Virgin America flights to help consumers deal with hectic holiday season schedules.

“Whether it`s using Gmail to confirm an airport pick-up time with your brother, doing some last-minute gift shopping for your niece on Google Product Search or searching Google.com for a good sweet potato pie recipe before touchdown-we hope this makes it a bit easier to stay connected with family and friends while you`re up in the air,” Google product marketing manager Jeff Aguero says in a recent blog post.

Travelers are required to bring their own Wi-Fi-capable laptop or handheld mobile device. The service will be offered on all flights to destinations served by Virgin America: San Francisco, Boston, Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Orange County, CA, and San Diego.
