Q2 web sales declined 13.1% for Books-A-Million

E-commerce sales for Books-A-Million fell in the second quarter to $5.3 million from $6.1 million in Q2 of 2008. Total sales for the quarter were $122.4 million, a 0.7% decrease year over year from $123.2 million.

E-commerce sales for Books-A-Million Inc. fell 13.1% in the second quarter to $5.3 million from $6.1 million in Q2 of 2008. For the second quarter of fiscal 2010, ended Aug. 1:

  • Total sales were $122.4 million, a 0.7% decrease year over year from $123.2 million.
  • The web represented 4.3% of total sales compared with 5% in Q2 of 2008.
  • Comparable-store sales decreased 4.9%.
  • Net income was $1.5 million compared with net income of $645,000 in the prior year period.
For the first six months of fiscal 2010:
  • E-commerce sales declined 12.1% to $10.9 million from $12.4 million in the same period of fiscal 2009.
  • Total sales were $240.6 million, an increase of 0.6% from $239.2 million in the prior year period.
  • The web represented 4.5% of total sales compared with 5.2% through six months of fiscal 2009.
  • Comparable-store sales fell 3.1%.
  • Net income was $3.6 million compared with net income of $1.6 million in the first half of fiscal 2009.
