E-mail marketer StrongMail acquires social marketer PopularMedia

StrongMail Systems Inc., a provider of e-mail services, has acquired PopularMedia, a provider of social media marketing solutions.

PopularMedia’s Influencer Ads platform allows marketers to create online experiences that invite consumers to share content, products and offers with others. PopularMedia has developed a “viral optimization engine” that analyzes campaigns for viral impact.

StrongMail says it will use the acquisition of PopularMedia to integrate e-mail and social media campaigns that will enable the sharing of content with popular social networks and enable the creation of integrated, measureable viral campaigns. The purchase price was not disclosed.

"By enabling marketers to create viral campaigns that they can monitor and optimize based on response rates, StrongMail is going way beyond the simple `share to social` functionality that is offered today by most e-mail service providers," says Sam Cece, CEO of StrongMail Systems.
