Multichannel book retailer Barnes & Noble has launched a video blog on its e-commerce site featuring book reviews and store event information from store associates across the country. The blog will reside online in the Barnes & Noble studio, a hub within the retailer’s e-commerce web site that hosts videos and multimedia content about books, readers and writers.
Barnes & Noble says the blog brings the experience of chatting with a knowledgeable bookseller in a store to the web. For now, 11 store associates from nine cities serve as bloggers. The video blogs will be updated weekly.
The retailer, No. 38 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, launched the blog to commemorate the anniversary of the studio. Since its launch in March 2008, the studio has featured over 2,000 video and audio offerings, with new content added weekly. As another anniversary celebration, Barnes & Noble launched The Best of the Best: B&N; Studio’s One Year Anniversary Collection, a series of original shows and interviews.
Along with the blog launch, BarnesandNoble.com also updated its store locator feature to identify stores with blogging booksellers.
For the fiscal year ended Jan. 31, 2009, sales at BarnesandNoble.com decreased by 2.3% to $466 million from $477 million in the prior year.
