Amazon ended its 30-day price protection guarantee on Sept.1st, an Amazon customer service representative confirms.

The program allowed customers to claim the difference in an Amazon markdown for 30 days after the purchase.

Amazon ended the program because oftentimes price drops on the Web site were special discounts from manufacturers or suppliers, and Amazon would have to refund the difference to all shoppers who had purchased the discounted items in the previous 30 days, the rep says.

Amazon ranks No. 1 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
