The Vitamin Shoppe has joined the movement toward creating communities as a way to engage shoppers. Vitamin Shoppe, No. 186 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, this month launched a free online community with message boards, expert leaders, and health, wellness and sports nutrition advice.

The Vitamin Shoppe online community features experts who host discussions and answer specific questions. They include Dave Foreman, an herbal pharmacist, Christiane Rivard, a registered dietitian, and Dave Hawk, former Mr. USA and Mr. World and a personal trainer and adviser to professional football and hockey players, wrestlers and NASCAR drivers.

The community forum allows members to develop specific profiles about their workout, diet, and supplementation practices, track their progress in an online journal and share that with the community or with friends.

“The online community is a natural extension of the conversations that happen in our stores everyday,” says Lou Weiss, vice president and general manager of Vitamin Shoppe Direct.
