Electronics retailer RadioShack has launched a new application on social networking site Facebook.com called MyMosaic to promote its digital imaging product line.
The application, built by digital media company Carat, a division of Aegis Group plc, and Moma Labs, enables Facebook members to create a digital mosaic from their friends’ profile pictures, uploaded photos, or from pictures on photo sites or other web sites. Users can click on the mosaic and go deeper into image layers to view all the contributing photos that make up the mosaic. The more pictures, the sharper the mosaic, RadioShack says. Facebook members also can share their photo mosaic with friends and family.
The new application is part of RadioShack’s online social media campaign to spread the word about its digital imaging service and is supplemented by RadioShack advertising.
“Through Facebook, we’re helping raise our brand’s awareness and create additional relevance with a younger customer base,” says Peter Whitsett, RadioShack’s executive vice president and general merchandising manager. “Such an interesting and unusual application is a great testament to our ‘Do Stuff’ positioning by encouraging customers to create an enjoyable outcome that previously did not exist.”
As of this afternoon, 32 Facebook members had added the application to their profiles. RadioShack is No. 235 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
