Crate and Barrel promotes president Barbara Turf to CEO
Turf replaces Gordon Segal, who founded the multi-channel housewares retailer in 1962. Turf started with the company as a part-time summer employee in 1968.

Barbara Turf, who took a part-time summer job at a Crate and Barrel store in Chicago in 1968, has been promoted from president to CEO of the multi-channel housewares retailer.
Turf replaces Gordon Segal, who founded the company with his wife Carole in 1962. Segal will remain as chairman of Euromarket Designs Inc., the corporate owner of the 160 Crate and Barrel, CB2 and Land of Nod stores and of CrateandBarrel.com, which is No. 52 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
The company is majority owned by Otto GmbH, a German company that primarily owns catalog and web retailers.
