ControlScan, a provider of payment security applications to small and mid-sized e-commerce companies, has named Joan Herbig as CEO. Herbig joins ControlScan from nCircle Network Security, where she headed the Cambia Security operations that nCircle acquired in 2007.

ControlScan, founded in 2005 by chief technology officer Richard Stanton, is turning to Herbig to help it enter a new phase of growth, the company says.

Through its Verified Secure products, ControlScan helps online retailers meet the payment card industry’s data security standards. It scans web sites for security vulnerabilities, assesses their security levels and provides business security certification seals. It also provides online chat, search engine submissions and other services to help e-businesses market their services and build consumer confidence in online shopping.
