Zappos moves up in the apparel and beauty ranks

Year-over-year growth of 30% projected online footwear retailer Zappos.com to No. 3 among apparel and beauty sites in January, ranked on unique visitors, up from No. 5 a year earlier, Nielsen Online reports.

EBay clothing, shoes & accessories held onto its No. 1 spot in spite of a 5% decline in unique visitors. EBay jewelry and watches was No. 2 with a 3% increase, Nielsen Online reports.

The top 10 apparel and beauty sites in January, in millions of unique visitors with visitors this year and last and growth from last year, according to Nielsen Online, were:

  • eBay Clothing Shoes & Accessories, 11.22, 11.79, -5%
  • eBay Jewelry and Watches, 5.29, 5.14, 3%
  • Zappos.com, 4.60, 3.52, 30%
  • eBay Health & Beauty, 4.33, 4.68, -7%
  • Avon, 4.25, 3.49, 22%
  • Victoria`s Secret, 4.16, 5.21, -20%
  • Old Navy, 4.12, 2.90, 42%
  • Lands’ End, 3.71, 3.47, 7%
  • L.L. Bean, 3,64, 3.50, 4%
  • The Gap, 2.70, 2.54, 6%
The entire category hosted 61.8 million unique visitors in January.

Unique visitors count only once each shopper who came to a site, no matter how many times that shopper visited. This is a custom list compiled by Internet Retailer of the top e-commerce sites in this category based on Nielsen Online data.

By time spent per visitor (minutes:seconds), the top 10 apparel and beauty sites, with unique visitors in millions, were:
