Wireless telecommunications network Alltel has debuted access to mobile shopping mall Digby in its menu of mobile offerings. The free mobile shopping service is available to Alltel subscribers using BlackBerry smartphones.

In addition to being a mobile mall, Digby is an m-commerce technology and services vendor. It launched the mobile commerce destination with the goal of simplifying the m-commerce process and making mobile shopping more inviting for consumers. The mini-mall offers merchandise in 13 primarily gift-oriented categories; merchants include Godiva Chocolatier, FTD Florist, Vermont Teddy Bear and Capalbo’s Gift Baskets.

Shoppers access Digby by going to Alltel.com/smartphone from their BlackBerrys and selecting Digby.

“Mobile shopping is an excellent complement to Alltel’s existing portfolio of wireless Internet solutions that provides our customers more flexibility on what they can accomplish on the go,” says David Maddox, director of product marketing at Alltel.

Alltel has 12 million subscribers using various mobile devices. Digby is accessible only via BlackBerry devices, though Digby plans to expand hardware options.

Digby features content optimized for BlackBerry devices, including full product descriptions and images. It includes a universal shopping cart with support for multiple products and retailers in a single order. The mall also offers integration with BlackBerry calendars and address books so users can enter reminders for gift-giving events such as birthdays and anniversaries.
