The Burnsville, Minnesota-based retailer is in the second year of administrating its property and lease data using AMTdirect. The AMTdirect program has been everything Northern Tool + Equipment had hoped for, according to Scott Stokke, Director of Real Estate and Facilities for the company.
NTE revenues are generated by Internet/catalogue sales and consumer traffic and purchases at the more than 65 retail stores Northern Tool + Equipment operates in 11 states. Stokke, with help from two staff property managers, is responsible for the management of leases and related issues for each of those properties.
Before signing up with AMTdirect, Stokke said, his department relied on an old software program that was extremely high maintenance and not portable.
“It was very important that our next system be Web-based,” Stokke said. “It had to fit with our server and infrastructure, had to be out-of-the-box ready to use; we didn’t want a customized program – there’s a lot of stuff out there that we don’t need or use -- and we wanted someone who was highly recommended. AMTdirect met all our criteria.”
Stokke said he was pleased by the level of AMTdirect’s start-up support. “AMT sent two experts to Burnsville for three or four days and we got up to speed quickly, without any major hitches,” Stokke said.
Instead of time-wasting searches for paper documentation and PC files, Stokke said, his department is just a click away from the AMTdirect database that details complete leasing histories and alerts him of critical dates through daily event tracking.
“Now I sleep pretty good not worrying about my leases,” he said. “We’re just a click away from the information we need to answer critical questions about our properties very quickly – even in the middle of the night.”
