E-commerce platform provider GSI Commerce Inc. has opened its largest fulfillment center, a 540,000-square-foot facility in Richwood, KY, that will employ 500 full-time and 500 seasonal workers. All told, the company now has nearly 2 million square feet of space in its fulfillment centers, which are located in Kentucky and Illinois.

“Our advanced Richwood facility was designed to support the immediate and future needs of GSI’s growing, diverse partner base,” says Bob Wuesthoff, executive vice president of global operations. “Fulfillment is a key component to GSI’s end-to-end solution, and Richwood complements our existing infrastructure, while simultaneously providing additional scalability to our operations.”

In addition to such standard fulfillment functions as picking, packing and returns processing, GSI’s fulfillment centers provide a variety of more specialized services, including customized packaging, gift wrapping, and product monogramming and engraving. Last year, GSI says it customized nearly 100,000 National Football League jerseys as fans added names to the back of the shirts.
