BestBuy.com leads in unique visitors in December by a wide margin

BestBuy.com was the leading web site in consumer electronics, ranked by visitors, in December, besting No. 2 CircuitCity.com by 35%, reports Nielsen/NetRatings.

Best Buy Inc.’s BestBuy.com was the leading web site in consumer electronics, ranked by visitors, in December, besting No. 2 Circuit City Stores Inc.’s CircuitCity.com by 35%, reports Nielsen/NetRatings, a company that measures and analyzes Internet usage. Best Buy was No. 1 a year earlier, but its lead over Circuit City then was 28%. BestBuy.com hosted 21.98 million unique visitors in December; Circuit City hosted 16.3 million.

In December, the leading consumer electronics sites by unique visitors (which counts only once each shopper who came to a site, no matter how many times that shopper visited), with the year-earlier December number (in millions) and year-over-year growth were:

• Circuitcity.com, 16.300, 15.203, 7%

The category as a whole hosted 53.43 million unique visitors.
