Blair Corp. names a new president

Blair Corp., an online and catalog retailer of apparel and home products, has named Adelmo S. Lopez president and chief executive officer. He was Blair`s executive vice president, COO and CFO and has held positions with apparel manufacturer Russell.

In addition, Blair’s board has asked retiring president and CEO John Zawacki to serve as vice chairman of the board until April 1.

In announcing Zawacki`s new position as vice chairman, chairman Craig Johnson, said, "While John has announced his decision to retire from Blair and its board, the company can ill afford to lose his talents and expertise at this juncture. He has the business knowledge and sense of company history which the board needs during this vital transitional period. There`s an important role for him as a resource for Al and his management team and as an active spokesman for the board of directors." A group of investors has made an offer to buy Blair (http://www.internetretailer.com/dailyNews.asp?id=21159)

Before joining Blair, No. 95 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, Lopez served as group general manager, responsible for five strategic business units at Russell Corp., a $1.4 billion branded athletic, activewear and outdoor company. Before that, he was vice president, mass retail, at Russell.

Blair’s vice president of marketing Jeff Parnell, is speaking at Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition, June 4-7 in San Jose, in a session June 5 entitled “Making E-Retailing Music: When IT and Marketing Harmonize.”
